The future queen who just sparkled her way past the trolls

Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, has carried out several important engagements this week with considerable elegance despite some persistent negative commentary on social media.

Princess Amalia attended Prinjesdag on Tuesday, the official opening of the Dutch Parliament. She travelled to the Riksdag with her parents and younger sister, Princess Alexia, in a horse drawn carriage, and listened attentively as her father gave the speech from the throne.

She chose a dark green Safiyaa gown with full-length sleeves and a triangular cut-out at the neck.

The Princess of Orange also joined her parents as they hosted a dinner for the members of the Council of State on Wednesday. She wore a striking dark blue gown with a mermaid silhouette and a square neckline.

Princess Amalia finished her look off with the Diamond Trellis Necklace, a delicate necklace made of roughly one hundred diamonds set out in a lattice design. The larger stones can be switched out; Princess Amalia wore the pearl setting instead of sapphires or rubies.

There was plenty of praise for the princess at both events but the future queen is also subject to some negative scrutiny.

Social media users have commented on the young woman’s appearance and weight. Given that she carried herself well this week and represented the Dutch monarchy well, it is unfortunate that many chose to comment on her physical appearance rather than her commitment to her role.

Catharina-Amalia has also had to deal with serious offline threats to her safety which saw her go to live in Spain for several months. She has now returned to the Netherlands.

However, the Princess of Orange looked comfortable, confident and relaxed at all the big events she’s attended this week. In the spotlight, this future queen has reigned.
